Weight of the Kavadi

Story

There was a farmer in a village. For him, God was a form of devotion. One day, the farmer's son asked his father, "You always say temples and pagodas. What is devotion?" The farmer replied, "I will tell you the answer when the occasion arises." A few days passed. On the day of Aadi Krittika, the day to perform Kavadi puja to Lord Subramanya on the hill arrived. The farmer asked his son to lower the Kavadi from the attic. The farmer asked his son, who was lowering the Kavadi from the attic using a ladder, "Is the Kavadi heavy?" The boy replied, "It is a little heavy." After performing the puja at home, the father and son put flowers, fruits, and other puja paraphernalia in the Kavadi and started climbing the hill, chanting "Harom Hara!" The farmer asked his son, who was climbing the steps of the hill with great enthusiasm, "We have put a lot of things to offer to the Lord in the Kavadi. The temple is also on the hill. There are a lot of steps to climb. Don't you find it difficult?" He replied with a radiant face, "It is very light, I don't feel the weight at all." The farmer smiled and explained, "When you were carrying the empty kavadi from the attic, it felt heavy. Now, even though it is heavy, the same kavadi does not feel heavy to you even when you are climbing the steps of the hill. This is called devotion. Due to the feeling of devotion, our attention to the work we do increases. Discipline is instilled. We gain the ability to willingly accept any responsibility. Even if it seems difficult, the work becomes easy because we do it willingly. We can reach the desired destination with confidence." The farmer's son realized, "True, the feeling of devotion can do many miracles for us." Amidst the ringing of the kavadi bells, they had darshan of the Lord, paid their respects, and returned home.
